The Centre's Work
Welcome to the Centre for Excellence in Professional Placement Learning`s (Ceppl) web-site! The site aims to inform and engage all those with an interest in placement or practice learning - academics, educators in practice, students, service users, employers, the list goes on.
The Ceppl has as its mission the enhancement of placement or practice learning to the benefit of students, educators (HE and practice based), and service users.
While the Centre was originally located within the Health and Social Care arena, our work has covered a wide range of disciplines from fashion to veterinary science. The centre`s work has been two-fold:
1. The development of best practice in various key aspects of placement learning provision - each aspect formed a separate area of development activity and was run by a core team comprising a mix of academics, practice educators, students and service users. These areas of activity are shown in the diagram below. More detail about what each area has been doing can be obtained by clicking on the links on the page or by scrolling over the box below.
2. The development of new, innovative placement opportunities for students, with an explicitly transformative agenda. These placements seek to assist in the provision of health and social care to historically marginalised groups such as refugees, asylum seekers, people who are homeless, and carers of chronically ill individuals amongst others. New placements are informed by the work of the development activities such that best practice is embedded and sustained in all new initiatives.
Please contact us if you would like further information.
Unfortunately, due to the ceasing of funding at the end of December 2010, the Ceppl closes its door on 31st December. We`d like to thank all the innovative, inspiring and enthusiastic people who`ve helped to make the Ceppl a unique initiative!
