Summary of Role:
Joint lead for Rethinking Interprofessional Education and responsible for the development of undergraduate and postgraduate level modules relating to interprofessional education; development of principles and methodology for authentic interprofessional education (Clemow & Parker, 2006). Joint lead for Transformative Placement Opportunities, including ethnographic study of Students and Refugees Together (START); development of a methodology for transformative research in Postmodernity; development of a generic module on social inclusion and exclusion in Postmodernity; Faculty Lead for Taught Postgraduate Programmes including Programme Lead for Integrated Health; module lead of M-Level Facilitating Interprofessional Education and Principles and Practice of Data Analysis.
Biography & Background
Melanie has been researching with students for over 8 years at the University of Plymouth. This work has included looking at social inclusion/exclusion, inclusive education, student-centred learning, constructivism, transformation. Melanie in her final year of study for her Doctorate, which is entitled Utopias of Education and Inclusion.
Current research interests include:
Authenticity and Interprofessional education
Performativity and its impact on education
Constructions of marginalised groups in contemporary society
Research methods, positionality, governance, moral and ethical foundations in Postmodernity
Melanie is a member of the Faculty of Health`s Learning and Teaching Committee; a member of the Steering Group for Interprofessional Education; and a member of the student ethics committee. Melanie is also Coordinator of the Devon and Cornwall Branch of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain.
